Some of the new features... 30/07/2004 DaPlaya

Some of the new features that will be apearing in Night Raiders Beta 2.0 are:

  • SKA player and weapon models.
  • More new and improved particle systems.
  • Completly re-vamped code structre.
  • Networking with bike speeds up to 216Km/h, still unknown how the infamous net-code.will handle this (yet to be tried and tested).
  • Nitrous Oxid System (NOS) upgrades to tempory make the bike accelerate faster.
  • Health capsules to help players regain any lost health (only a minor health increasement).
  • Engine sounds that rev with the bike's engine.
  • Tire skid sounds and particle effects when the player attempts to push the bike beyond it's limits.
  • Various other minor features that need not be stated alone.

I shall be working hard to introduce many more new features testing all along the way to ensure that no more errors are introduced and left un-noticed.

You may have also noticed the site menu has once again changed. This was done because I never realy liked the tempory flash menu, which was created because I also never truly liked the inital javascript based menu, it was just too hard to maintain.

Cause Located 29/07/2004 DaPlaya

Yes the title is correct, asko has managed to help me solve one of the possiably many bad sync errors.. put simply a limited version of Night Raiders has been tested under even more limited conditions and no bad sync errors occured over 1 hour of playing.

Having spent the past month working on both trying to create working singleplayer mode, but also correct the 'unsolveable network error', it is my thinking that this network error has finally been located. Or rather cause of some network errors have been solved. others maybe introduced.

The following aspects of the multiplayer section of Night Raiders still have to be tested for absence of errors:

  • SKA player and weapon models (good chance for a flaw in here).
  • Particle systems.
  • Completly re-vamped code structre.
  • Networking with bike speeds up to 216Km/h.
  • Various other minor features that need not be stated alone.

I shall be working hard to introduce many features testing all along the way to ensure that no more errors are introduced and left un-noticed.


Expect Delays 30/06/2004 DaPlaya

Well it's now offical, Night Raiders Beta 2.0 will be delayed due to an unsolveable network error. Hence all errort is now being redirected from multiplayer gameplay over to singleplayer mode.

Singleplayer mode will merely consist of simple 'get to the next zone' style gameplay. Given the nature of the unsolvable network problem it was the best choice that resulted in a version release in the neer future. I have rewriten most of the mod code from scratch and it now runs much better, though the sync error still remains it should not cause many problems for singleplayer mode.

Good news is that I received credits or better for all my uni studies, which means that the time for study is now over - let the modding resume.

The singleplayer version of Night Raiders will have a few key features:

  • New enemy biker units.
  • SKA player and weapon models.
  • Large and 'moderatly' detailed enviroment.
  • At the moment only one level will be included for the singleplayer mode, due to the time in which it takes to create a single map is considerable.
  • Completly re-vamped code structre.
  • New sounds for the pistol and engine.
  • Increased bike speeds up to 216Km/h.
  • Various other minor features that need not be stated alone.

On a down, is the fact that for the next 14 days or so I shall be on holiday interstate on a snowboarding vacation. On a plus side however, is the fact that I shall be working on designs for both the enemy bikers and map enviroments while in transit.

Later, if all goes to plan next update (which should be around my b-day july 27th) will have some good looking images of the enemy biker and enviroment sketches. If everything goes realy well then I have also have some images of inital 3d model versions for the enemy.


One Year Ago 07/06/2004 DaPlaya

One year ago today I anounced the inital release of Night Raiders, the high speed futuristic motorcycle racing combat modification for Serious Sam: The Second Encounter. In the the time since then several enhancements to Night Raiders have been made. While I would like to be able to anounce the release of the Night Raiders Beta 2.0 release version, I can not due to some residant code errors that first appeared in the inital release.

Inorder to solve these errors it has been therefore decided that the code base for Night Raiders shall be rebuild from scratch using the standard SE1.07 SDK. While this may seem to be a step backwards, it is inpart a step forwards as this will mean refinement of the whole code and removal of all residant errors from the past versions of the mod. The Night Raiders content can remain the same since no versions introduced new elements into the game engine. Expect an update on the progress of Night Raiders Beta 2.0 Rebuild in the next few days.

The reasoning behind the complete rebuild are based upon the fact that the problems with the game could not be easily tracked down. Things such as clients crashing the moment they connected to the server and attempted to precache the state, and the ever present BADSYNC errors. This rebuild should take not long since I am far more familar with the Serious Sam SDK now than I was one year ago.

On a plus side, is the fact that I currently have a week entirely free with which to work on the release code.

Later, I have also been asked about the posibality of releasing some more screen shots of NR Beta 2.0, however I must point out that any time to take screen shots and post them will require some considerable time, time which could be spent re-intergrateing the code.
