One year ago today I anounced the inital release of Night Raiders, the high speed futuristic motorcycle racing combat modification for Serious Sam: The Second Encounter. In the the time since then several enhancements to Night Raiders have been made. While I would like to be able to anounce the release of the Night Raiders Beta 2.0 release version, I can not due to some residant code errors that first appeared in the inital release.
Inorder to solve these errors it has been therefore decided that the code base for Night Raiders shall be rebuild from scratch using the standard SE1.07 SDK. While this may seem to be a step backwards, it is inpart a step forwards as this will mean refinement of the whole code and removal of all residant errors from the past versions of the mod. The Night Raiders content can remain the same since no versions introduced new elements into the game engine. Expect an update on the progress of Night Raiders Beta 2.0 Rebuild in the next few days.
The reasoning behind the complete rebuild are based upon the fact that the problems with the game could not be easily tracked down. Things such as clients crashing the moment they connected to the server and attempted to precache the state, and the ever present BADSYNC errors. This rebuild should take not long since I am far more familar with the Serious Sam SDK now than I was one year ago.
On a plus side, is the fact that I currently have a week entirely free with which to work on the release code.
Later, I have also been asked about the posibality of releasing some more screen shots of NR Beta 2.0, however I must point out that any time to take screen shots and post them will require some considerable time, time which could be spent re-intergrateing the code. |
